US special envoy will meet with Putin in Moscow to discuss peace talks in Ukraine

Steve Witkoff, the US envoy, confirmed that he will meet with Vladimir Putin in Moscow as the US pursues renewed diplomacy to put an end to the conflict in Ukraine.

As Washington intensifies efforts to mediate peace in Ukraine, a special envoy from the United States has confirmed preparations to visit Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

Steve Witkoff, the US special envoy, announced that he and Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of President Donald Trump, will meet with Putin on Thursday to discuss ending the conflict in Ukraine. In an interview with reporters outside the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Witkoff stated that as part of the diplomatic effort, he would also be interacting with Ukrainian officials.

“I’m hoping that every meeting on that topic will go smoothly. “We require peace,” he stated.

Witkoff asserted that the parties were getting closer to an agreement, characterizing the outstanding difficulties as the last “10 percent” of a possible agreement to halt Russia’s nearly four-year war in Ukraine.

Although Ukrainian officials emphasize that important issues, especially the delicate subject of land, are still unresolved, they claim to have agreed to a large portion of the proposed settlement framework.

In order to deter future Russian invasion, Kyiv is also looking for strong guarantees from its allies about post-war security.

The diplomatic attempt coincides with Russia’s ongoing, intense attacks on Ukraine’s electricity infrastructure in the dead of winter, which are making life more difficult for civilians all around the nation.

In an effort to put a stop to what has grown to be Europe’s bloodiest conflict since World War II, Washington has stepped up diplomatic efforts in recent months.
