US Indicates Ukraine Peace Talks Are Approaching Conclusion as Zelensky Meets Trump in Davos

US ambassador Steve Witkoff reports that peace discussions with Ukraine have advanced and are now centered on settling a single problem.

With Washington’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, noting that “a lot of progress” has been achieved and that discussions are now down to one last unresolved issue, the United States has stated that talks aimed at ending the war in Ukraine are nearing a breakthrough.

As Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy arrived in Switzerland on Thursday for high-level discussions with US President Donald Trump on the fringes of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Witkoff spoke, signaling a dramatic change in Zelenskiy’s previous stance.

In order to address Ukraine’s deteriorating energy crisis, the Ukrainian leader had earlier in the week stated that he would not be attending the yearly event. Large portions of the capital and a number of other areas are without power due to Russian bombings on electrical infrastructure.

Additionally, Zelenskiy had stated that he would only travel to Davos if he had a real chance to sign a deal with President Trump to end the war, which has been going on for almost four years. According to him, such a deal would need to include both financial support for post-war reconstruction and clear security guarantees for Ukraine.

Reversing anticipation that the Ukrainian leader would not attend the conference, President Trump said on Wednesday that he would see Zelenskiy in Davos.

The two leaders will meet at 1 p.m. local time (1200 GMT), and the Ukrainian president will then speak at the forum at 2.30 p.m., according to a statement from Zelenskiy’s spokesperson.

Wit,Washington is stepping up diplomatic attempts to settle the war, and in recent days, Koff has been meeting with Ukrainian officials in Davos after earlier talks over the weekend in Florida.

In order to discuss a potential framework for ending the war, which is still Europe’s bloodiest conflict since World War Two, Witkoff and fellow US envoy Jared Kushner are scheduled to go to Moscow later on Thursday.

President Putin will meet with Witkoff and Kushner after 7 to 8 p.m. Moscow time (1600 to 1700 GMT), according to the Kremlin.
