Novak Djokovic wins the 100th Australian Open with a dominant serve
Novak Djokovic defeated Pedro Martinez in straight sets, celebrating his 100th victory at the Australian Open with a perfect serving performance.
In straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2, Novak Djokovic defeated Pedro Martinez of Spain to claim his 100th Australian Open triumph. With just five points lost from 57 service games over a two-hour encounter, the 38-year-old world number four displayed an almost flawless serving performance.
In addition to winning an astounding 93% of points behind his first serve and keeping a 77% first-serve percentage, the ten-time Australian Open winner held serve eight times without dropping a point and dropped only one point in the second and third sets. Djokovic’s fourteenth ace of the evening concluded the contest.
The 17-time Grand Slam doubles winner Mark Woodforde called Djokovic’s serve “supreme” and “exceptional,” despite the Serbian player’s modesty. “The performance tonight was excellent; I have no complaints. “I performed really well,” Djokovic remarked.
As he reflected on hitting the 100-win mark at Melbourne, Djokovic—who has previously won 102 at Wimbledon and 101 at Roland Garros—shared video highlights from his 2005 main-draw debut in the post-match interview. “I won’t get caught up in my career until I’ve put the racquet aside [and am] sipping some nice cocktail on the beach,” he said, downplaying the importance of concentrating on professional accomplishments.
Looking ahead, Djokovic’s second-round opponent will be Francesco Maestrelli, an Italian qualifier. The feeling of becoming a centurion is pleasant. “Making history is enormous motivation,” he stated. “I was lucky to meet folks early in my career who told me to take care of my health and mind, not burn out too soon, and play the long game with my job. Another victory would be a dream come true, and I’m fortunate to be playing at this level.
Djokovic is determined to win a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam singles championship, and his impressive Melbourne debut makes it abundantly evident that he is still a formidable force in men’s tennis.
