Museveni was declared the winner of the Ugandan elections

Yoweri Museveni, the incumbent president of Uganda, has been announced as the winner of the country’s presidential election.

On Saturday, the chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, announced the completion of the final tally from more than 50,000 polling stations.

Museveni held a commanding lead during the counting process that commenced on Friday.

The official results indicate that Museveni garnered 7,946,772 votes, which represents 71.65 percent of the total votes cast. His primary competitor, opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi—commonly referred to as Bobi Wine—secured second place with 2,741,238 votes, accounting for 24.72 percent. Kyagulanyi rejected the results, asserting that the election had been tampered with.

Voter participation reached 52.5 percent, with over 11.3 million ballots submitted from a registered electorate of 21.6 million.
