US condemns South Africa for its involvement in naval drills with Iran

The United States condemns South Africa for permitting Iran to participate in naval drills, claiming that this poses a risk to regional stability.

A government decision about Iran’s participation in ongoing naval exercises was disregarded by the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and its Minister of Defense, according to sources that have alarmed the United States.

The US called Iran a “destabilizing actor and state sponsor of terror” and said that its involvement in joint exercises “undermines maritime security and regional stability” in a statement released on its official Twitter account, @USEmbassySA.

Iran is still “shooting, jailing, and torturing Iranian citizens engaging in peaceful political activity South Africans fought so hard to gain for themselves,” the statement added, criticizing South Africa for housing Iranian security troops.

“South Africa can’t lecture the world on ‘justice’ while cozying up to Iran,” the US said in its conclusion.
