Kagame in Guinea for the inauguration of Doumbouya
President Paul Kagame landed in Conakry, the capital of Guinea, on Friday, January 16. He will be present during Mamady Doumbouya’s inauguration on Saturday.
Guinean Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah welcomed Kagame upon his arrival in Conakry.
With 86.72 percent of the vote, 41-year-old Doumbouya was proclaimed the victor of the presidential election held on December 28.
In addition to congratulating him, Kagame expressed his desire for closer ties with Guinea.
When Kagame visited the West African nation in November 2025 to inaugurate the Simandou Iron Ore Project, the biggest active mining project in the world, the two leaders last met.
Early in May, Doumbouya had also traveled to Rwanda. He got to know Kagame and the Guinean community in Rwanda during the course of the three-day tour.
Since Alpha Conde was removed from office in 2021, Doumbouya has been acting as president.
