Madagascar’s military has acquired Russian equipment and training during a period of political transition

Madagascar Presidency reports that Moscow is providing equipment and dispatching trainers as the nation manages its post-coup transition.

Madagascar is enhancing military collaboration with Russia amid its ongoing political transition after the removal of the former government.

The Malagasy presidency announced on Wednesday that Moscow is providing military equipment to the nation in the Indian Ocean and has dispatched a delegation to train its armed forces in utilizing this equipment.

The presidency has announced that the training will encompass various types of equipment and will involve multiple military units located in the capital, Antananarivo.

The presidency stated that Madagascar is open to collaborating with all nations, while also highlighting that the country has traditionally acquired a significant portion of its military equipment from Russia.

Since October, Madagascar has been undergoing a political transition following a coup d’état that ousted then-president Andre Rajoelina, which came after weeks of protests led by the youth regarding power and water shortages.
