Xabi Alonso Breaks the Silence After Real Madrid Exit

There are more and more doubts in Spain about the story of a “mutual agreement” between Real Madrid and Xabi Alonso. The club’s formal statement said that the split was mutual, but several Spanish news outlets say that the Basque coach was fired against his will.

These people say that Alonso found out about the choice very late, even though he had talked to club officials earlier that day. That it happened just hours after losing the Super Cup final in Saudi Arabia made it even more shocking. Florentino Pérez’s choice was said to have been affected by things like his transfer strategy, injuries that kept happening, and problems with relationships with some key players.

Before leaving, Xabi Alonso is said to have told the club’s leaders how upset he was. Journalist Antón Meana said that the coach publicly attacked Real Madrid’s management, especially what he saw as giving players too much power.

It made Alonso feel unsafe because he thought it was impossible to fully control the locker room because the club always went with the players over the coach, even when it came to sports. Close friends and coworkers say he left for the winter break sure that things would get better and that the team was showing signs of improvement in late December.

But Alonso’s fate was sealed by the club’s leaders’ lingering worries, and now the football world is waiting for his own public account of what happened.
