The rapper 50 Cent is putting $124 million on Shreveport’s huge studio expansion

50 Cent is moving forward with plans to build out G-Unit Studios in Shreveport, Louisiana. This is a big investment in the entertainment industry and a long-term bet on the city as a place to film.

Monday, state officials announced that Jackson’s company has signed a contract committing $124 million to a downtown redevelopment project that will be done in several steps. The main goals of the project are to improve the Stageworks venue, fix up the production campus that used to be Millennium Studios, and build what the project planners call a “dome-style immersive venue and green space park.” Louisiana Economic Development said the state will support the effort by giving up to $50 million in infrastructure funds based on how well the project meets standards.

Jackson framed the plan as more than just an expansion of the studio, focusing on how it might affect the local business and job market. “We are creating jobs, giving people hope, attracting new productions, and giving the entertainment industry a reason to build their futures right here by reinvesting in downtown Shreveport and upgrading existing assets to make state-of-the-art entertainment and production facilities,” he said.

Governor Jeff Landry was happy about the deal and said it showed how popular the area is becoming. “This is great to see that another project sees the strength, talent, and potential of this area,” Landry said.

The deal was finally reached after years of work. Jackson first talked about his plans for G-Unit Studios in the spring of 2024. He compared the idea to the big production campuses that have turned places like Atlanta into entertainment hubs. Last year, a long-term lease with the city for the Stageworks land was made public. This made it possible for the building to be redeveloped.

Jackson is still working on a lot of different projects, including TV shows, movies, documentaries, and audiobooks. G-Unit is working on or planning to work on projects with Starz, BET+, Hulu, Fox Entertainment, and Fox Nation. This shows that the company can work on a lot of different channels.

The Shreveport campus could become one of the biggest production investments in the region if construction goes as planned. This would put the city in a position to compete for projects that are looking beyond standard filming centers.
