Major international meetings are rescheduled by world leaders after Trump books a UFC fight at the White House

Trump secretly postponed an international conference after securing a boxing event on the South Lawn on June 14.

France discreetly changed the date of this year’s Group of 7 summit after Trump caused a highly American schedule dispute to arise in Washington.

Originally scheduled to take place in Evian les Bains, near Lake Geneva, from June 14 to June 16, the world leaders’ gathering will now take place from June 15 to June 17. Following its formal announcement on the G7 website, the change was verified by two officials with knowledge of the planning.

The move comes after Donald Trump declared in October that a major UFC event would take place at the White House on June 14. UFC CEO Dana White told CBS News that the fight’s schedule is set and that up to 5,000 people will attend the South Lawn event.

The weight of June 14 was already there. Trump’s availability is crucial for allies hoping for full attendance at the meeting because it is both Flag Day in the United States and his 80th birthday.

The change had not been openly linked to the battle by France. The French president’s office stated that the new dates were “the result of our consultations with G7 partners,” but it declined to officially confirm the cause of the change.

A more lucid explanation was provided by a White House official, who told POLITICO, “Our partners felt that President Trump’s presence at the G7 Summit was crucial as the leader of the free world. They graciously changed the dates to fit the president of the United States’ schedule.

The local publication LeMessager was the first to speculate that the meeting would be rescheduled because of the president’s birthday; this scenario now seems to have materialized.
