The chief of Tesla and SpaceX shared details of the meeting in a post on X on Tuesday, stating: “Had a lovely dinner last night with @POTUS and @FLOTUS.” 2026 is set to be incredible! The post mentioned President Donald Trump and Melania Trump, the First Lady of the United States.
The dinner held at Mar-a-Lago in January 2026 follows a lengthy feud that started in mid 2025, when Musk openly criticized Trump’s significant tax and spending initiative, referred to as the One Big Beautiful Bill. Musk referred to the legislation as a “disgusting abomination,” prompting a strong reaction from Trump.
As the conflict intensified, Trump expressed his deep disappointment in Elon, cautioning that Musk’s businesses might face the risk of losing government contracts and subsidies.
