The president of CAR makes a visit to Rwanda
President Faustin-Archange Touadéra of the Central African Republic (CAR) arrived in Rwanda on Sunday, November 23, for a two-day working visit.
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, he was welcomed by Minister of Interior Vincent Biruta.
Rwanda and CAR have maintained enduring connections, especially in the realm of security collaboration. Rwanda has sent troops to the Central African Republic as part of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission (MINUSCA) and through a separate bilateral defense agreement.
Rwanda has provided assistance to CAR in its endeavors to reform the security sector, which includes the training of the armed forces.
In 2023, President Touadéra praised Rwanda for what he termed a “fruitful” partnership, highlighting that Rwandan support had been instrumental in restoring peace and stability in CAR.
In December 2020, the Rwandan military played a crucial role in halting the advance of the Coalition of Patriots for Change (CPC), a rebel alliance spearheaded by former president François Bozizé, as it sought to approach Bangui.
During that period, Rwanda swiftly sent troops under a bilateral defense agreement to strengthen the armed forces of the Central African Republic.
