US congressman requests prayers following the kidnapping of 25 girls in northern Nigeria, while Buhari’s former aide denies the existence of a “Christian enclave”
US senator Moore requests prayers following the kidnapping of 25 schoolgirls in Nigeria, but Bashir Ahmad contests the allegation that the incident was motivated by religion.
Congressman Riley McGowan Moore of the United States has urged people to pray for the 25 girls who were abducted and for the soul of their killed vice principal in an attack that was said to have occurred in Northern Nigeria. In an X post on Tuesday, Moore called the area a “Christian enclave” and called on the Nigerian government to step up its efforts to stop the bloodshed.
Moore made the announcement after online rumors of the kidnapping began to circulate. Former presidential assistant Bashir Ahmad quickly corrected him after he described the community in such a way, disputing the allegation and stating that the incident happened within a Muslim community.
The congressman posted: “Please join me in praying for the 25 girls who have been abducted and for the soul of their vice principal who was killed.” We know that this terrible attack took place in a Christian enclave in Northern Nigeria, but we don’t have all the specifics. The Nigerian government has to take greater action to curb the widespread violence.
“While I appreciate your concern and prayers for our sisters, I would like to correct a crucial detail: the attack did not take place in a Christian enclave,” Ahmad said in response. Both the deaths and the incident took place in a Muslim community. This is the exact reason we frequently claim that even Americans are either unaware of how complicated Nigeria’s insecurity issues are or are purposefully spreading false information that could exacerbate our already precarious unity.
Ahmad underlined in the response that, in contrast to Moore’s previous depiction, the victims and the impacted community were Muslims.
