Lionel Messi, the legendary Argentine football player, has formally extended his contract with Inter Miami through December 2028.
Thursday’s confirmation of the accord comes after rumors circulated last week that Messi and the club’s management had reached a verbal agreement.
The MLS has now authorized every procedural action needed to extend the contract.
Messi is expected to stay at Inter Miami for three more years under the new contract, continuing to serve as the team’s spokesperson and one of the biggest names in American football.
Messi has played a key role in promoting the MLS both on and off the field since joining Inter Miami in 2023 after leaving Paris Saint-Germain. His participation has increased worldwide coverage, brought in a number of well-known players, and drawn record attendances to the league.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner will likely be the focal point of Inter Miami’s long-term sporting strategy as they strive for consistent success in both domestic and continental championships.
