South Africa Held in Kinshasa while Tanzania and Zimbabwe win

Tanzania and Zambia recorded victory elsewhere, while South Africa was held to a 1-1 stalemate by DR Congo in Kinshasa in the first leg of their second-round qualifying match on Tuesday.

After Bonolo Mokoma’s excellent set-up play down the left wing, Kgalebane Mohlakoana gave the visitors the lead late in the first half of the match between DRC and Banyana Banyana at the Pentecost Martyrs Stadium.

Banyana’s advantage, though, was short-lived as Ruth Monique of the DRC equalized shortly before halftime.

Both teams cancelled each other out in the second half, but South Africa will undoubtedly be delighted because they have an advantage on away goals going into the rematch at FNB Stadium on Tuesday.

Zambia defeated Namibia with an exciting 4-2 “away” victory at the Dobsonville Stadium in Johannesburg, while Tanzania defeated Ethiopia 2-0 in the Azam Complex Stadium in Chamazi, due to goals from Aisha Mnunka and Jamila Mnunduka.

Ivone Kooper and Zenatha Coleman scored Namibia’s goals, while Copper Queens star Racheal Kundananji added a hat-trick to Racheal Nachula’s goal.

The 16-team WAFCON, which will take place in Morocco in March and April of next year, will be open to the victors of the second-round matches.
