Sean Dyche is named Nottingham Forest’s new head coach through 2027
Sean Dyche, a former Forest youth player, makes his comeback as head coach on a 2027 contract, making his debut on Thursday against FC Porto.
After “a thorough recruitment process led by Global Head of Football, Edu Gaspar, and Global Technical Director, George Syrianos,” Nottingham Forest has officially announced Sean Dyche as the club’s next head coach.
The Club claimed it was “delighted to confirm the appointment of Sean Dyche as the Club’s new Head Coach” in a statement published on its official X handle on Tuesday.
On a deal that will last “until the summer of 2027,” Dyche, a former member of the Club’s youth squad, will coach his debut game “on Thursday night as The Reds take on FC Porto in the Europa League.”
According to the statement, Dyche will collaborate with a seasoned backroom staff. Ian Woan and Steve Stone, two former Nottingham Forest players who combined for over 400 games for the Reds in the 1990s, will join Dyche as part of his seasoned coaching staff.
“A respected and experienced Premier League manager,” Forest said of the former Burnley and Everton manager’s management abilities, adding that he “brings the perfect blend of character, tactical acumen, and proven achievement to guide the Club through its next chapter.”
“Having managed more than 330 Premier League matches in his career to date, Dyche has built teams defined by defensive organization, resilience, and strength from set pieces, qualities that closely align with the current squad’s attributes and the Club’s footballing identity,” the Club said, highlighting his managerial record.
Dyche’s ties to the Club and its community were also highlighted in the statement. “Dyche also has a profound understanding of the values and pride of Forest and its supporters, having lived in the area and played as a Forest youth player.”
“With his character, tactical acumen, and man-management skills, his appointment represents the best opportunity for a successful and competitive season across both domestic and European competitions,” Nottingham Forest said, expressing confidence that the hire would put the team in a strong position for the challenges ahead.
When Nottingham Forest plays FC Porto in the Europa League on Thursday, Dyche will make his first appearance in the dugout.
