Jamie Carragher: “It’s time to handle Salah in a new way”
The 2-1 defeat of Manchester United at Anfield by Liverpool sparked further worries about Mohamed Salah’s play. The Egyptian player was again inconspicuous on the field and was criticized by club great Jamie Carragher for his lack of impact.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Carragher suggested that Salah be handled more carefully this season and encouraged new manager Arne Slot to reevaluate the winger’s automatic starting position.
“He causes the manager a lot of trouble,” Carragher remarked. In the past, Klopp would remove him when things weren’t going well. Salah should no longer play in every game at this stage. He may not always be the first name on the squad sheet, but he is still an important player. Liverpool might profit from rotating him, the veteran defender continued, particularly during hectic Premier League and European schedules.
When Salah replaced Jeremie Frimpong in the 85th minute, the Dutchman instantly sent energy down the right wing, seemingly confirming Carragher’s argument. Slot believes that in order for Liverpool to remain competitive on all fronts, striking the correct balance between experience and freshness may be essential.
