Morocco wins the FIFA U20 World Cup for the first time ever after defeating Argentina

Morocco defeated Argentina 2-0 thanks to a brace from Yassir Zabiri, earning them the historic first FIFA U20 World Cup title.

At the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos in Santiago, Chile, on Sunday, Morocco defeated Argentina 2-0 in the final to win the FIFA U20 World Cup for the first time.

Morocco took the lead in the 12th minute when Yassir Zabiri beat Argentine goalkeeper Santino Barbi with a looping free-kick. The North Africans extended their advantage in the 28th minute when Othmane Maamma set up Zabiri for a close-range strike.

Despite having 71 percent of the ball, Argentina was unable to generate many clear opportunities because Morocco’s defense stayed compact and disciplined. Argentina’s attacks were successfully neutralized by the North Africans, and their goalie made vital stops to hold the lead.

Argentina was unable to take advantage of multiple free-kick opportunities and VAR reviews. The South Americans’ attempts to burst through were thwarted in the second half by Morocco’s tactical alterations, which strengthened the midfield and back line.

A memorable evening for Moroccan football was completed when Zabiri won the man of the match award for his two goals.
