UEFA wants teams that want to go to the World Cup and the Euros to make a lot of changes

UEFA is planning to change how teams get into the World Cup and the Euro. L’Équipe says that the European body wants to give campaigns a break from being the same by introducing a new, more competitive model based on the Champions League.

It’s important to make qualifiers more interesting for fans and reporters, whose interest has been falling. At the Football Summit in Lisbon, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin stated that talks are taking place to update the process and bring back the prestige of international qualification.

It is said that two options are being thought about: adding the Nations League straight to the qualification process or making a league-style system with one big championship or two groups of 27 teams. That way, big countries would always be able to play at a high level, and smaller teams would still have a good chance to qualify.

If the reform is approved, it won’t start until 2028, when the current agreements run out. However, it could change how European teams fight for global and continental tournaments.
