Cristiano Ronaldo is the first football player to ever become a billionaire

Cristiano Ronaldo is the first football player to be named a billionaire. He is worth an amazing $1.4 billion (£1.04 billion).

The Bloomberg Billionaires Index, which tracks world net worth rankings, has worked out how much money the 40-year-old Al-Nassr striker has.

Bloomberg says that Ronaldo has made more than $550 million (£410 million) in wages alone from 2002 to 2023. This includes over 20 years of job wages, brand deals, and investments.

One of his best deals is a long-term one with Nike that is said to be worth $18 million (£13.4 million) a year. But it was his move to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia in 2022 that really changed how much football players get paid.

He made £177 million a year as part of his first deal, which made him the highest-paid player in football history. He has now signed a new two-year deal that is said to be worth more than $400 million (£298 million).

Ronaldo lives a very fancy life when he’s not playing football. The father of five recently asked his longtime partner, Georgina Rodriguez, 31, to marry him. The diamond ring is thought to be worth between $2 million and $10 million.

Lionel Messi, a former rival who now plays for Inter Miami, has made more than £447 million (£600 million) before taxes over the course of his career. Messi has been making $20 million (£15 million) a year since 2023, which is about tenth of what Ronaldo made during the same time period. The 38-year-old Argentine star is likely to get a stake in his MLS team when he retires, which will add to his wealth.
