Al Ahli Tripoli wins the FIBA Intercontinental Cup with a bronze medal

Third position

Flamengo 82 – Al Ahli Tripoli 91

Al Ahli Tripoli of Libya defeated Flamengo of Brazil 91-82 on Sunday, September 21, making them the first African team to place on the FIBA Intercontinental Cup podium.

At the showcase, which brings together elite clubs from multiple continents, Africa was represented by the 2025 Basketball Africa League (BAL) champions.

In the Third-Place Game, Al Ahli battled back and forth with Brazil’s Flamengo, reversing a 10-point deficit and turning it into a five-point lead until it vanished once more and went under the wire.

With less than two minutes remaining, coach Mohamed Elkerdany went to Jean-Jacques Boissy in the dying minutes, and the guard delivered, making a huge three-pointer to make the game a five-point contest.

It was sufficient to overcome Flamengo’s defenses and win the match 91-82.

All five of Al Ahli Tripoli’s scorers that day scored 16 points or more.

Ivan Almeida and Makur Maker each had 20 points and 11 rebounds, Ismael Romero had 18 points and 11 rebounds, Boissy scored 17, and Marcos Knight finished with 16 points and 9 rebounds.

Early on, Flamengo was burning from outside the arc, but when it counted most, they were unable to purchase a bucket.

Wesley Ferreira and Alex Negrete combined for 21 points off the bench, Alexey Borges scored 13 points and dished out seven assists, and Gui Deodato and Markeith Cummings both scored 14 points.
