Beard, a former manager of Chelsea and Liverpool, passes away at age 47
Matt Beard, who used to manage Liverpool and Chelsea, died at the age of 47, the two Women’s Super League (WSL) clubs said late Saturday night.
Beard led Liverpool to back-to-back WSL titles in 2013 and 2014. He then came back to the team in 2021 and took them back to the top level after two years in the second level.
After leaving Liverpool in February, his last job as a coach was a short time in charge of Burnley from June to August.
The club said in a statement, “Our thoughts are with Matt’s family and friends during this very sad time.”
“Matt was not only an extremely committed and successful manager, he was also a person of real integrity and warmth, who will always be remembered with genuine fondness by everyone he worked with at the club.”
Beard’s first job as a manager was at Millwall. In 2009, he moved to Chelsea. He was also a coach for Bristol City, West Ham United, and the Boston Breakers.
