Time Out! Angel Reese is suspended by the Chicago Sky for remarks on the team’s ongoing problems

The basketball IT gal will now undergo a half-game penalty after her team’s poor season reached a breaking point.

The Chicago Sky have given Angel Reese a half-game suspension for remarks she made on the team’s poor season.

Days after Reese opened up about their difficulties after a season in which they came close to qualifying for the playoffs, the struggling club decided to discipline their best player. The Chicago Sky front office controversially fired beloved WNBA head coach Teresa Weatherspoon during the 2024 offseason, but they did not resign their defensive star, Chennedy Carter. In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Reese expressed his displeasure with the Sky’s significant fall and offered some advice to the team’s ownership.

Reese declared, “I am very vocal about what we need and what I want.” “I would like to stay here for my career, but if things don’t work out, I may need to choose a different route and take care of myself. However, I intend to remain receptive to what I have here and make the most of it while I am here.

After a devastating off-season and with the extra burden of a starting five beset by injuries, Reese has previously stated that the team needs stronger players added to the roster. The Chicago Barbie took the time to clarify her remarks in the Tribune after the club narrowly defeated the Connecticut Sky.

“I think I’m angry with myself at the moment,” Reese remarked. Since my teammates have been through this with me the entire year, I don’t think the wording was taken out of context, and I didn’t mean to disparage them. … I want to express my regret to my teammates, whom I already have, for the piece and the way it was interpreted.

The Sky’s choice to bench Angel in conjunction with their public announcement appeared to convey a different message, even though the team’s current head coach Tyler Marsh assured media that the matter had been resolved internally.

The statement concluded that the Sky is “moving forward as a team” and stated that Angel Reese would not participate in the first half of the game on September 7 against the Las Vegas Aces due to remarks she made that were damaging to the team during league-mandated media.

Since she led her old team, the Louisiana State University Lady Tigers, to a national title over Caitlin Clark’s Iowa Wildcats in 2023, Reese has been the target of constant internet bullying and hate speech motivated by race. The Sky’s statement, according to many WNBA fans, added gasoline to the continuing barrage of criticism directed against Reese.

Angel faces a lot of hostility on the internet, even for things she doesn’t express. You guys have never offered her any kind of protection! One commenter asked beneath the organization’s post, “If you say it’s being handled internally, why would you put something like this out?” “Why are you making her the target of additional hate mail on the internet just for promoting improvements for the company? She is your star player, which is why you are selling more tickets and goods. literally the cause of this organization’s continued relevance in spite of what former players have said about it.

An additional user made a comment,

I hope the WNBPA takes action since it seems like retaliation to me. Always standing by Angel’s side!

Reese can exercise her player option for free agency in 2027 after signing a three-year contract with the Midwest-based squad. Her decision to remain in Chicago for the remainder of her career is still up in the air, but it doesn’t seem likely. Reese’s dominance in the post, her star power, and her likeability among other players could provide numerous teams advantages. Her admirers will undoubtedly follow her wherever she goes next.
