Al-Ahli wins the Saudi Super Cup, and Ronaldo scores the 100th goal for Al-Nassr

In the Saudi Super Cup final in Hong Kong, Al-Ahli defeated Al-Nassr 5-3 on penalties following a thrilling 2–2 draw on Saturday, in which Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 100th goal for the losing team.

Ali Majrashi’s handball penalty in the 40th minute allowed Portugal star Ronaldo, 40, to surpass the milestone by opening the score from the penalty spot.

Following a well-placed pass from new acquisition Enzo Millot, Franck Kessie of Al-Ahli, the winners of this year’s Asian Champions League trophy, reacted in first-half stoppage time by finishing low past Al-Nassr keeper Bento.

Before Firas Al-Buraikan hit the post, Ronaldo put Edouard Mendy to the test with a strong strike as both teams fought for a victory in the second half.

Al-Nassr’s advantage was regained in the 82nd minute when Marcelo Brozovic scored from inside the area after a bad clearing.

However, Roger Ibanez headed in a Riyad Mahrez corner when Bento mishandled the ball, giving Al-Ahli another equalizer in the 89th minute.

Ronaldo scored from his spot-kick, but Al-Nassr missed one, and Al-Ahli scored all five penalties in the shootout to give the Jeddah-based team their second Saudi Super Cup victory.
