The D’Tigers lose to Senegal in the quarterfinals and are eliminated from the Afrobasket

The D’Tigers of Nigeria lost to Senegal in the quarterfinals of the Afrobasket event, so ending their campaign. 

Senegal defeated Nigeria’s D’Tigers 91-75 in their quarterfinal match at the Pavilhão Multiusos de Luanda on Wednesday, knocking out the 2025 AfroBasket in Angola.

In the crucial moments, the Nigerian team, who had dominated the group stage with three victories from three games, was unable to duplicate that scorching form.

Although they had a strong start, winning the opening quarter 24-23, the D’Tigers soon lost steam. The scoreboard read 53-42 at the half as Senegal took control in the second quarter and led by 11 points.

Nigeria was unable to come up with replies as the Senegalese increased their lead to almost 20 points in the third quarter. Senegal easily won and advanced to the semi-finals by the last quarter, when the game had slipped out of the D’Tigers’ grasp.

Nigeria’s final standing at the tournament will now be decided by their participation in classification games against other quarterfinal losers.
