Bill Belichick will no longer be a weekly guest on the coach’s radio show at UNC
The first episode of the usual weekly coach’s radio show will feature an appearance by Bill Belichick, the first-year football coach at North Carolina.
According to a news statement from the university, the program, which was once known as “Mack Brown Live,” has been rebranded “Carolina Football Live” and will still stream once a week from a restaurant and brewery close to the North Carolina campus in Chapel Hill.
Before the season opener against TCU on August 27, Belichick will take over as coach for the first game of the season. Following that, the program will air on Mondays and examine the Tar Heels’ performance from the previous weekend and the one coming up.
Every week, North Carolina general manager Michael Lombardi will take center stage, accompanied by players and assistant coaches. Lombardi will be seated next to Belichick for the inaugural event. The one-hour program is hosted by Jones Angell, the Tar Heels’ radio play-by-play commentator.
While many college football coaches have contracts that require them to participate on a weekly radio show, Belichick does not have this restriction. He is merely required by his contract to appear “as reasonably requested by the University.”
Prior to this season, Belichick, 73, had never served as a head coach of a collegiate program. From 2000–23, he guided the New England Patriots to six Super Bowl titles.
TCU will play North Carolina in Chapel Hill on September 1. Belichick’s debut season is highly anticipated, as seen by the sold-out home game tickets.
