In Afrobasket 2025, Cameroon beats Tunisia 86–65, ending Tunisia’s 10-year winning streak

At the Pavilhao Multiusos de Luanda, Cameroon played up to their moniker as the “Indomitable Lions” on Wednesday night, defeating defending AfroBasket champions Tunisia 86-65 in their Group B match.

With a game-high 20 points, Williams Narace led the charge and established the tone for Cameroon’s outstanding performance. Guard Jeremiah Hills, who was born in the United States, provided him with a strong assist with 14 points, while Fabian Ateba and Yves Missi each contributed 12 points.

Jawhar Jawadi led Tunisia’s scoring chart with 16 points, followed by Mohamed Ochi (12) and Omar Abada (11). Both players scored in double figures.

With both teams swapping baskets during the first quarter, the game—the eighth AfroBasket meeting between the two countries—started off at a fast tempo. But with time, Cameroon’s precise offensive and disciplined defense swung the match in their favor.

Tunisia’s incredible ten-year unbeaten streak in the AfroBasket tournament comes to an end with this opening-night victory, which also gives Alfred Aboya’s team more confidence. The North Africans’ most recent loss was in the 2015 edition’s third-place match.

Cameroon’s victory demonstrates their status as legitimate contenders for the continental title and sends a clear message about their goals for the 2025 edition.
