Sha’Carri Richardson apologizes to Christian Coleman, his boyfriend, following his arrest for domestic abuse

Sha’Carri Richardson, the world sprint champion, officially apologized to Christian Coleman after her recent arrest for domestic abuse.

Sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson has apologized sincerely to her partner, fellow sprinter Christian Coleman, for her recent arrest on a domestic abuse accusation.

Richardson posted a video to Instagram on Monday night in which she apologized and admitted that she had placed herself in a “compromised situation.” “I love him & to him I can’t apologize enough,” the defending 100-meter world champion wrote in a follow-up apology to Coleman on Tuesday morning. “To Christian, I love you & I am so sorry,” she added, emphasizing that her apology “should be just as loud” as her deeds.

Richardson was charged with fourth-degree domestic violence at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on July 27 after allegedly hitting Coleman. She was detained at the South Correctional Entity jail in Des Moines, Washington, for more than eighteen hours. Days before she raced in the US championships in Eugene, Oregon, she was arrested.

Richardson discussed self-reflection in her video and stated that she chooses “to face everything that comes to me head on rather than run away.”

The police report states that Richardson and Coleman were involved in a disturbance that was reported to officers by a supervisor of the Transportation Security Administration. According to security footage, Richardson grabbed Coleman’s backpack, pulled it away, and then blocked his passage when he attempted to pass her. According to reports, Coleman was pushed against a wall. Richardson reportedly threw something at Coleman, probably headphones, according to the report.

Coleman refused to continue with the inquiry and did not identify himself as a victim, according to the police. Coleman was not available for comment when contacted.

Despite her prior experiences, Richardson thanked Coleman on social media for giving her “a greater understanding of unconditional love.”

Having won the 100 meters at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, finished second at the Paris Games last summer, and contributed to winning Olympic gold in the 4×100 relay, Richardson is a well-known personality in track and field.

However, after testing positive for marijuana during the US Olympic trials, she was unable to compete in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
