Kenya was fined Sh6.45 million (USD 50,000) by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for safety and security violations during a CHAN (African Nations Championship) qualifier between Kenya and Morocco at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani.
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) was found guilty of violating several safety and security laws, according to a statement issued by the CAF Disciplinary Board. Stadium security and crowd control were major issues during the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship match.
Here is CAF’s whole statement:
The Disciplinary Board of the Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) convened to discuss a number of issues with the current TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) PAMOJA 2024.
The decisions are summarized as follows:
Zambian Football Association (FAZ)
During the Match Day 1 Press Conference prior to their TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) match against the Democratic Republic of Congo, the CAF Disciplinary Board accused the Football Association of Zambia (“FAZ”) of violating CAF’s Media Regulations.
At the required press conference, Zambia did not bring the head coach. Zambia was found guilty by the Disciplinary Board and fined USD 5,000.
Kenya Football Federation (FKF)
The Football Kenya Federation (“FKF”) was accused by the CAF Disciplinary Board of many safety and security violations during the Kenya TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) match versus Morocco at Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani.
Kenya was found guilty by the Disciplinary Board and fined USD 50,000. Kenya was cautioned that if it doesn’t continue to adhere to CAF safety and security regulations, its national team games may be moved to a different place. Kenya was counseled to strengthen security by enforcing road closures on game days and placing enough guards around the stadium’s perimeter.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF)
The Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (“FRMF”) was charged by the CAF Disciplinary Board for the improper behavior of its players during Morocco’s match against Kenya in the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (“CHAN”).
Morocco was found guilty by the Disciplinary Board and fined USD 5,000, of which USD 2,500 is suspended provided that no similar offenses are committed for the rest of CHAN 2024.
After being informed of this judgment, the fines must be paid within sixty days.
