Ter Stegen returned as Barcelona’s captain following his signing of a La Liga medical authorization

Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been restored to his position as first team captain by Barcelona, who announced on Friday that the goalie has given the club permission to forward his medical report to La Liga.

In response to accusations that he is to blame for Barcelona’s inability to sign new players, Ter Stegen made the announcement, stating that the club had given its complete approval for his back surgery and rehabilitation schedule.

Barcelona had requested that the German sign a long-term medical leave that would enable them to pay him 80% of his salary until the middle of the season and adhere to La Liga’s Financial Fair Play regulations, which would allow them to sign new players. However, the German’s three-month recuperation caused them an unanticipated headache.

The club management, however, was displeased with Ter Stegen’s social media declaration that he would only be out for three months because, according to La Liga regulations, a player must be out of action for at least four months for an injury to be deemed long-term.

As a result of the argument, the 33-year-old was relieved of his captaincy on Thursday.

“The Club announces that the player Marc-Andre ter Stegen has signed the authorisation necessary for the Club to send La Liga the medical report relating to his surgery,” the statement added.

“The disciplinary case has been closed and the player is captain of the first team once again with immediate effect.”

Club officials, Ter Stegen insisted, have always been informed about his recuperation and treatment.

“The club fully approved the decision to undergo surgery after consulting with medical professionals,” Ter Stegen said in an Instagram message earlier Friday.

“Moreover, I announced publicly the minimum recovery timing that I shall need after that, which had been communicated to me by most reputed experts and always in coordination with the club.”

Season Commences on August 15

Last month, Barca signed Marcus Rashford on loan from Manchester United, and they acquired 24-year-old goalkeeper Joan Garcia from local rivals Espanyol.

Both players, however, have not yet been registered for the upcoming La Liga season, which begins on August 15.

Even though Ter Stegen signed the authorization, La Liga’s Medical Committee still has to make a decision on his case. Based on the goalkeeper’s anticipated rate of recovery, they will decide whether Barcelona may utilize a portion of his pay to acquire new players.

Barcelona’s financial difficulties are brought to light by the scandal as they strive to make new acquisitions.

The club requested permission from Spain’s National Sports Council to field Dani Olmo and Pau Victor through the end of the season last year after LaLiga stated that they were unable to register the two players based on their accounts.
