CAF releases the 2025 club rankings ahead of the opening round draw. FC wants to be in the top thirty

The 2025 Club Rankings, which are a crucial standard before the Preliminary Round Draw for continental events, have been formally announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Club performances throughout the previous five seasons in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup are reflected in the rankings, with more recent accomplishments receiving more weight.

With 78 points, Al Ahly FC of Egypt is still leading the continental scene. Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa is next with 62 points, while Espérance Sportive de Tunis of Tunisia is third with 57 points. Tanzania’s Simba SC (48 points) and Morocco’s RS Berkane (52 points) round out the top five, both teams having made notable progress in recent years.

Ghana’s Dreams FC, who enter the top 30 for the first time in their history and are currently ranked 26th with 12 points, is one of the most remarkable tales in this year’s rankings. A major factor in the Ghanaian team’s ascent was their remarkable run to the CAF Confederation Cup semifinals the previous season. With 42 points, Dreams FC’s journey came to an end at the hands of seventh-place Zamalek SC.

The team’s performance has not only brought them notoriety on the continent but has also put them in a strong position going into the upcoming Ghana Premier League season. Their appearance in the semi-finals, characterized by daring offensive play and a gutsy strategy against more formidable opponents, has obviously improved their continental position.

While clubs like Stellenbosch FC, Rivers United, and Future FC have demonstrated consistent progress and are currently in the top 30, indicating a change in the competitive balance in African football, USM Alger (9th), Wydad AC (8th), and Zamalek SC (7th) continue to be among the elite.

As CAF gets ready to hold its 2025 club competition drawings, these rankings will be crucial in deciding seedings and pairings, giving the top-ranked clubs an edge.
