Rashford, an England forward, is loaned to Barcelona from Manchester United
Manchester United and Barcelona announced on Wednesday that Marcus Rashford, an England forward, has joined Barcelona on a season-long loan with a buyout option.
According to media reports, Rashford accepted a pay cut, and Barcelona agreed to pay his salary this season. The option to purchase the player is valued at about 30 million euros ($35.25 million).
“Excited. It’s a club where people’s dreams come true, in my opinion. They receive substantial rewards. Additionally, I place a great deal of importance on the club’s principles. Rashford then said on Barcelona’s YouTube channel, “I feel like I’m at home.”
Rashford reportedly signed his contract earlier this afternoon, according to Barcelona.
“Rashford can play in any offensive position. He is right-footed, capable of taking on players, and a superb finisher—skills he can now display while wearing a Barcelona shirt,” the team said in a statement.
Rashford, who was born in Manchester and made 426 senior appearances for United, scoring 138 goals in all competitions, was fired after manager Ruben Amorim questioned the 27-year-old’s work ethic.
After Amorim stated that he would rather have a goalkeeper coach on the bench than a player not giving it their all, Rashford, who won two FA Cups, two League Cups, and a Europa League trophy with United, went on loan to Aston Villa in February.
After joining Villa, where he scored two goals in ten league games, the forward, who had scored 17 goals for England in 62 appearances, claimed to be feeling fresher and better. Meanwhile, United experienced their worst Premier League season ever, finishing in 15th place.
In a statement, Manchester United said, “Everyone at Manchester United wishes Marcus good luck for the season,”
Beginning on July 27, Barcelona, the La Liga winners, will travel to South Korea and Japan for three preseason friendlies.
