Infantino announces the Club World Cup victory in spite of detractors
FIFA President Gianni Infantino praised the tournament as a success on the eve of the Club World Cup final, taking note of the complaints made about it, which ranged from excessive heat to stadiums that were only half filled for some games.
Infantino stated that he would rather have more spectators in bigger stadiums, even if they weren’t packed, and that stadiums with roofs might be given preference for day games at the World Cup next year, which will also be held in the US, Canada, and Mexico.
During a press conference on Saturday at Trump Tower in New York, Infantino stated, “Of course, every criticism that we receive is a source for us to study, to analyze to see what we can do better.”
“I prefer to put, I don’t know, 35,000 people in an 80,000-seater stadium rather than 20,000 in a 20,000-seater stadium,” he stated.
“The heat is undoubtedly a problem. It is a problem everywhere in the world. Additionally, we have covered stadiums. Thus, we will undoubtedly utilize these stadiums more throughout the day,” Infantino continued.
The FIFA president added that there was no basis for the notion that European clubs and fans were especially critical.
We shouldn’t claim that Europe has a highly negative opinion on this since that is untrue. I’ve been chatting with the teams that arrived here. All of them had been delighted to visit this place. All of the fans that came have been delighted to be here,” Infantino remarked.
In agreement with the FIFA president, the legendary Brazilian Ronaldo, who attended the occasion with other former players, stated that the critiques had been mild.
“I just noticed two men critiquing the FIFA Club World Cup. “He despises everything except the Liga,” Ronaldo remarked.
“And the other – we respect the opinion, but I think as the president told you about the facts and the numbers and the enthusiasm of the people and the fans and the quality of the games, I think it has been a huge success.”
Infantino justified his tight ties to the present administration, claiming that it was essential to planning the massive events, especially since U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to attend the final.
“Trump accepted the FIFA Club World Cup’s significance right away. Of course, there will also be the World Cup the following year.
“You cannot even think of organising an event like this, like the Club World Cup… without the full engagement and full support of the government,” added the minister.
Sunday’s championship final between Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea will take place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
