João Pedro Brace’s decisive 2-0 victory over Fluminense propels Chelsea to the Club World Cup Final

João Pedro scored twice in his first game as Chelsea advanced to the Club World Cup Final by defeating Fluminense 2-0.

In Tuesday night’s semi-final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, Chelsea defeated Fluminense of Brazil 2-0 to secure their spot in the FIFA Club World Cup final.

New signer João Pedro took center stage, scoring a spectacular brace on his complete debut to propel the Blues to the championship game on Sunday. With a curling attempt into the top-right corner in the eighteenth minute, the 23-year-old, who moved from Brighton to Chelsea this month in a deal worth up to £60 million, opened the scoring.

He finished off a self-assured and clinical Chelsea performance with his second goal in the 56th minute of the second half, another strong strike into the same corner.

Strong and tenacious, Fluminense produced their own opportunities, such as a shot that was deflected off the line and a penalty call that VAR waved away. But Chelsea’s tactical discipline and organization under new manager Enzo Maresca made sure they kept things under control the entire time.

Chelsea will now wait to see who wins Real Madrid vs. Paris Saint-Germain in Wednesday’s other semi-final. In an attempt to win their second Club World Cup, the Blues will play in the final on Sunday, July 13.
