DONE DEAL: A Nigerian talent joins the six-time German champions
Jordan Torunarigha, a Nigerian international, has officially joined Hamburger SV, the six-time German Bundesliga winners.
The 27-year-old defender joined Die Rothosen on a free transfer from Gent, a Pro League team he joined from Hertha Berlin in January 2022 and helped win the 2021/22 Belgian Cup.
Torunarigha earned one cap for Nigeria’s senior squad and thirty caps for Germany’s youth teams. He is expected to play a significant part at HSV, who got promoted to the Bundesliga after placing second in the 2024–2025 Bundesliga 2.
“During his time in Gent, Jordan developed into a key player and top performer,” stated Claus Costa, HSV’s football director.
“We’ve been watching his development on and off the field, and we’re happy that he’s decided to continue his career with HSV.”
Torunarigha, who played 73 Bundesliga games while with Hertha Berlin, is excited for his new position in a familiar setting.
“I already know the Bundesliga, and I’m really excited to play in this unique league once more, especially for a team with the history of HSV.” The former member of the Chemnitzer FC academy stated that Torunarigha was completely persuaded to come to Hamburg.
“The individuals in charge worked very hard to give me a nice vibe. I’m eager to get to know the city, the fans, the coaches, and my new teammates. I want to use all of my skills and abilities to help us have a great season together where we accomplish our objectives.
