Actor Harris Yulin of Ghostbusters and Ozark Passes Away at Age 87
The actor’s manager, Sue Leibman, told Deadline that he died on Tuesday following a heart arrest. He was most recognized for his parts in Scarface and Ghostbusters II. His career lasted over 60 years.
The Hollywood star’s wife, Kristen Lowman, is his surviving spouse; however, his daughter, Claire Lucido, whom he had with his first wife, Gwen Welles, died in 2021 after a protracted illness.
Harris, who was born in Los Angeles, made his Broadway debut in a production of James Saunders’ Next Time I’ll Sing to You. However, it wasn’t until 1980 that he was cast in Watch on the Rhine.
He was a frequent on-screen character in the 1970s and 1980s, most remembered for playing corrupt police officer Mel Bernstein in the movie Scarface. He also starred in popular films such as Candy Mountain, Fatal Beauty, and Another Woman.
In the ensuing decades, he starred opposite Harrison Ford in Al Pacino’s Looking for Richard and Clear and Present Danger.
In addition, Harris had a lengthy television career. In addition to his regular roles in 24 and the US serial opera As the World Turns, he also made cameos on shows like Frasier, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
In the last years of his career, he appeared in episodes of FBI: Most Wanted, Ozark, and Billions on Showtime, but the 2024 movie Omni Loop was his final on-screen appearance.
Director Michael Hoffman led the tributes, however, since the Broadway actor was preparing to film an American Classic series for MGM+ in the final days before his passing.
