A British national escapes the Air India crash that killed more than 200 people

British national Vishwash Kumar Ramesh escaped the Air India tragedy that claimed more than 200 lives, according to Indian police.

Indian authorities say a British national has miraculously survived the Air India accident that killed more than 200 people.

There was only one survivor from the London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 airplane that crashed shortly after takeoff, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik told Indian news agency ANI. Vishwash Kumar Ramesh was the man who had been sitting at 11A.

According to Indian media, Mr. Ramesh is presently undergoing treatment in the hospital. “There was a loud noise thirty seconds after take-off and then the plane crashed,” he reportedly told reporters. Everything happened so fast.

According to local reporters, Mr. Ramesh provided a copy of his boarding card with his name and seat number on it, so establishing his status as the only survivor.

Among the 230 passengers on the fateful flight, which was headed for Gatwick Airport, were 169 Indians, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian. Shortly after takeoff, the plane struck a medical facility, according to Air India.

While the hospital treating Mr. Ramesh has not yet provided an official update on his status, authorities are still looking into what caused the accident.
