Trump’s National Guard Move Draws Criticism from Gavin Newsom: “Come Arrest Me, Tough Guy!”
Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, declared his intention to challenge the Trump administration for deploying the National Guard to Los Angeles without state approval, claiming that this action was unlawful and unconstitutional. Over the weekend, Trump dispatched the National Guard to quell ICE protesters.
Newsom blasted the ruling in an interview on MSNBC on Sunday night, saying, “Donald Trump has created the conditions you see on your TV tonight.” He has made the situation worse. He’s lit the figurative match, you know. He’s adding fuel to the flames. an act that is unlawful, immoral, or unconstitutional.
According to Newsom, the lawsuit will contest Trump’s decision to federalize the California National Guard.
The [Department of Defense] was required to communicate with the state governor as part of their duties. “They never worked together with the state governor,” he claimed.
Newsom highlighted his prior compliance with law enforcement by following the correct procedures. “We have no trouble cooperating with one another… However, there is a procedure and a protocol. That didn’t matter to him. Even worse, he was a blatant liar.
He cited Trump’s Truth Social post in which he said the National Guard had already performed a “great job,” despite the fact that the state had not yet sent out any troops. Simply lying to people is an illegal act, an unconstitutional act, and his mess is Orwellian. We’re attempting to tidy it up.
“Come after me, arrest me,” was Newsom’s direct response to FBI threats. Tough man, let’s just get it over with. This community is important to me.
The White House retaliated, accusing Newsom of allowing “chaos, violence, and lawlessness” to break out in Los Angeles and labeling his leadership “feckless.”
