Prince Harry Contemplated Altering Family Name To Spencer Due To Passport Delays For Children, According To Reports

Prince Harry and Meghan contemplated renaming their family Spencer after their two children’s British passports were delayed.

According to a Guardian report released on Wednesday, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly considered changing their family name to “Spencer” after experiencing months of difficulties in getting their children British passports.

Harry, the Duke of Sussex, felt that the delays were related to British officials’ objections to his children Archie and Lilibet’s use of the Sussex surname and HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) titles, according to the newspaper, which cited an unnamed source. In 2020, the pair left their official royal duties and moved to California.

According to a different person with knowledge of the matter, Harry had a meeting with his maternal uncle, Princess Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, to talk about taking the Spencer last name for his family. But the source denied rumors that Spencer told Harry not to go ahead with the shift or that legal issues prevented such a change.

The disclosure represents the most recent development in Prince Harry’s tense relationship with the British monarchy. Harry and Meghan have openly criticized the monarchy since moving to the US in a Netflix documentary series, a widely watched Oprah Winfrey interview, and Harry’s best-selling memoir, Spare. A severe rift has developed between Harry and senior royals, such as his brother Prince William and father King Charles III, as a result of these revelations.

In an interview with the BBC last month, Harry stated that he wants to make amends, but he also pointed out that King Charles has not made contact with him because of continuous disputes over security plans.

Harry and Meghan’s relationship with the royal establishment is still shaped by personal and institutional difficulties, which are now even extending to concerns over their children’s identity and future in Britain, according to the latest reports.
