TikTok has introduced a range of new features designed to provide users with greater control over the content displayed on their For You feed. 

The updates aim to assist users in exploring their interests with greater ease, uncovering new creators, and customizing their experience on the app.

The For You feed lies at the core of the TikTok experience, offering a personalized stream where users discover trending topics and creators, while communities and small businesses engage with new audiences. 

Adam Presser, TikTok’s Head of Operations & Trust & Safety, states that the latest tools are designed to enhance the relevance of the feed: “With our new features, you can manage topics in your feed and limit keywords or hashtags you’d rather avoid—making it easier to discover content and creators you love.”

Oversee Subjects

This tool allows users to manage the frequency of content they encounter across more than 10 popular categories, including Travel, Sports, Nature, and Creative Arts. Although it won’t entirely eliminate topics, it will modify their frequency, allowing the feed to evolve in accordance with user interests.

Intelligent Keyword Selection

This update enhances TikTok’s current filter. It enables users to omit not only particular keywords but also associated terms and synonyms. The limit for keywords has been increased to 200, and the introduction of new bulk-add options simplifies the management of preferences. So far, users around the globe have utilized keyword filters more than 190 million times.

For You Feed 101 Guide

TikTok is introducing an accessible educational guide designed to assist users in comprehending the curation process of their For You feed. The explanation covers the reasons behind content recommendations, provides tips for personalization, and features videos that have achieved over 180 million views worldwide.

These updates are accessible for both teen and adult accounts and enhance current safety measures. This encompasses:

1. Rigorous criteria for content eligibility in the For You feed
2. Instruments to rejuvenate the feed or designate videos as “not appealing”
3. A Restricted Mode to limit sensitive content
4. Strategies to minimize the occurrence of potentially sensitive subjects

Through these changes, TikTok aims to enable users to take control of their content experience—facilitating the discovery of the creators, hobbies, and communities that are most significant to them.
