At least 11 people have lost their lives in a crowd surge outside an Indian cricket stadium

At least 11 people have died and many more have been hurt in a deadly crowd surge outside of an Indian cricket ground.

At least 11 people were killed and many more were hurt in a crowd rush outside of a cricket stadium in Bengaluru, India, on Wednesday. The fans were celebrating Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s historic first Indian Premier League (IPL) title.

Authorities say that chaos broke out when thousands of fans gathered in the streets near Chinnaswamy Stadium to cheer on their team. They waved red flags and climbed trees and walls to get a better view as the bus carrying the team arrived for the evening event.

Police said the trouble started when people who didn’t have passes tried to break through the gates. More chaos broke out between the outer boundary and the main arena, which caused a deadly stampede.

Pictures from the scene showed people being pushed and climbed over during the crush. Karnataka state Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated that at least 11 people died and 47 were hurt.

“This bad thing shouldn’t have happened at a time of celebration.” We’re sorry about this. “The fans who came were even better than we thought they would be,” he told reporters.

It was seen that one police officer was taking a hurt spectator to an ambulance while others did CPR on the ground. Footage also showed people who were asleep being helped by other people.

Software engineer Mithun Singh was one of the witnesses who said that cops started using batons at one gate, which made things even more chaotic. Naseer Ahmed, who is the political secretary to the chief minister, told NDTV that the crowd got too big and the authorities couldn’t do enough to control it.

On its website, Royal Challengers Bengaluru gave away free passes to the party, but warned that there would only be a limited number available.

Even though something happened, the event inside the stadium went on. Metro lines near the event site were shut down.

In India, there have been many deaths in large groups, especially at holy events. During the Maha Kumbh Hindu festival in January, more than 30 people died while millions of people met to bathe in holy water.

The party on Wednesday marked Bengaluru’s win over Punjab Kings in the final of the 18th IPL, which is the richest cricket league in the world.
