Unexpected Departure: Lavalava Apparently Leaves Diamond Platnumz’s WCB Wasafi
Zuchu, who was signed in 2023, and DVoice, who was presented in early 2020, are the only two musicians left on the WCB Wasafi label following Lavalava’s departure.
The record company WCB Wasafi, founded by Tanzanian Bongo Fleva music legend Diamond Platnumz, has apparently lost another talent. After Mbosso left the same stable a few weeks prior, this development occurred.
Baba Levo, a close friend and confidant of Diamond Platnumz, revealed the information regarding the departure of the artist known as Lavalava.
Baba Levo, who is frequently the first person in the Wasafi family to provide news and updates, posted a picture of Lavalava on Instagram.
A note wishing Lavalava luck in her future musical endeavors, now beyond the WCB Wasafi’s sphere of influence, was included with this picture.
Baba Levo expressed his gratitude for Lavalava’s noteworthy talent in his speech. Additionally, he emphasized the work that his “elder LUKUGA”—a reference to Diamond Platnumz—had done to support and capitalize on Lavalava’s artistic talents.
As per Baba Levo, Diamond Platnumz vigorously supported Lavalava’s career, guaranteeing that his aptitude resulted in monetary prosperity and independence. As proof of this support, Baba Levo explicitly cited Diamond Platnumz and Lavalava’s numerous musical collaborations.
In his closing remarks, Baba Levo congratulated Lavalava on his choice to travel alone outside of WCB Wasafi.
Baba Levo remarked that Lavalava’s departure will provide Diamond the chance to bring in and develop fresh creative potential in the music industry, even though he acknowledged that this decision might have been postponed.
He added that Lavalava was now able to function on his own, making room for new people to come up under the WCB Wasafi umbrella.
Lavalava’s affiliation with WCB Wasafi began in 2015, according to information found online.
Nonetheless, on May 22, 2017, he was formally introduced as a label artist. The release of his wildly successful song “Tuachane,” which signaled his official debut on the WCB Wasafi roster, coincided with this announcement.
On May 24, 2017, Lavalava was introduced to the public as the label’s newest artist, confirming his place in the well-known musical ensemble, according to the official WCB Wasafi website.
Lately, especially after Mbosso’s departure about two months ago, Lavalava had apparently been under more and more pressure and criticism from some supporters.
These critiques frequently focused on what was seen as a standstill in his output while he was still signed to the WCB Wasafi label; some said that his most recent compositions lacked the caliber and impact of his previous releases.
A historical summary of artists leaving WCB Wasafi is given by Harmonize, who joined the label in 2015 and left in 2019 to start his own record company, Konde Music Worldwide.
After joining WCB Wasafi in June 2016, Rich Mavoko worked for the label for more than 26 months before leaving on August 9, 2018.
After six years, Rayvanny formally left WCB Wasafi in July 2022 to start his own business, Next Level Music. Rayvanny joined the company in 2016.
Lavalava’s rumored departure now drastically cuts into WCB Wasafi’s artist list. Zuchu, who was first made public in early 2020, and DVoice, the label’s most recent acquisition, who was signed in 2023, are the only two officially signed musicians left after his departure.
