Mariah Carey stands by her memoir statements following her brother’s decision to amend his lawsuit
Mariah Carey remains steadfast in her position!
As she deals with an amended lawsuit from her brother, Morgan Carey, the pop sensation is adamant that all of the information she provided in her memoir was true.
In 2020, Mariah Carey’s memoir “The Meaning of Mariah Carey” was published, providing detailed information on her early years spent with her brother and her late mother.
Mariah Carey disclosed that her mother had revealed her brother’s history of drug dealing.
In the midst of their ongoing court struggle, which has been more intense in the months since their mother’s death, the singer has expressed her rage towards her estranged brother, Morgan.
Morgan has asked to modify his lawsuit against Mariah, which was started in 2021 over her novel, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey.” He says his reputation has been harmed by the book’s unjust portrayal of him as a violent drug dealer from their early years.
Mariah stands by the veracity of the claims made in her memoir and adamantly denies any wrongdoing. She cites additional people who are aware of their past to bolster her claim that their mother told her about Morgan’s drug business.
She stated in a declaration that Morgan was active in Manhattan’s nightlife and that he frequently had cocaine on hand and gave it to his friends. According to In Touch, Morgan was permitted to pursue a few specific complaints against Mariah even if the judge rejected the most of his claims.
In his filing, the singer’s brother also mentioned a YouTube documentary.
After seeing a 2025 YouTube documentary featuring Mariah talking about her experiences, Morgan asked the court for permission to change his complaint.
She alleges in the documentary that her family plotted against her, having her institutionalized and medicated after she signed a big record deal.
Morgan claims that Mariah was referring to him and their mother and that he thinks these claims are untrue. Additionally, he implied that Mariah is in charge of the documentary’s YouTube channel.
Mariah responded by submitting a motion that opposed Morgan’s attempt to change his complaint. She announced the death of their mother, who might have been a crucial witness to the events described in the documentary.
Additionally, she noted that the YouTube account mainly consists of videos about her life and profession and makes no claims to be associated with her.
According to the Grammy winner’s brother, she published the memoir without getting his permission.
The Blast said that Morgan attempted to revise his lawsuit in order to add more allegations of “defamatory” statements to his case against the musician.
He argued that he was not given the chance to publicly refute the accusations because Mariah and her team did not contact him for a reaction prior to the book’s publication.
One of the unsettling allegations under question is Mariah’s assertion that Morgan took money from a woman in 1980 to kill her husband but afterward changed her mind. Morgan testified at the woman’s trial after she went on to commit the crime herself.
In his updated lawsuit, Morgan made it clear that neither he nor his mother ever tried to get Mariah institutionalized or take over her assets, calling her statements “a vicious lie.”
The mother of two and her brother were obliged by the court to appear face-to-face during a deposition.
Since it started, Mariah and Morgan’s case has seen a number of noteworthy developments, including a judge’s decision that the singer must face her estranged brother in person.
Both siblings were to take part in depositions by January 31, 2025, according to the judgment. Mariah has the right to ask for restrictions on the discovery process even if she is required to participate in the court proceedings.
The decision followed a devastating family tragedy in August when their sister, Alison Carey, and mother, Patricia Carey, died on the same day.
In a heartfelt message, Mariah shared her sorrow over the death of her mother and the terrible circumstances surrounding her sister’s passing.
“I lost my mother this past weekend, and it breaks my heart. Unfortunately, my sister passed away that same day in a heartbreaking turn of circumstances,” she added. Mariah disclosed that she was by her mother’s side throughout the final week of her life, despite their tense relationship.
Due to the memoir, Mariah Carey was also dragged to court by her late sister.
Alison filed a lawsuit against Mariah before to her death, claiming that statements in Mariah’s memoir publicly degraded her. Alison filed a lawsuit demanding $1.25 million in damages because of their long-standing alienation.
She said that Mariah’s “heartless, vicious, vindictive, despicable, and unnecessary” remarks caused her great mental pain. Alison also said that in an attempt to get notoriety and boost book sales, Mariah attacked her and damaged her reputation by taking use of her celebrity status.
Alison said she was horrified by Mariah’s portrayal and that it greatly increased the difficulties she was facing.
Mariah Carey and Morgan Carey’s back and forth appears to be here to stay!
