Intensive Care Unit at Gaza’s Last Operating Hospital Destroyed by Israeli Strike, Hamas Says
Hamas said an Israeli strike struck the last operational hospital in Gaza City, Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital, despite evacuations and warnings.
Hamas officials claim that the intensive care and surgery units of Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital, the last operational medical institution in Gaza City, were destroyed by an Israeli bombardment.
Online video footage showed thick smoke and massive flames rising from the two-story hospital structure as staff and patients, some still in their beds, frantically tried to flee. Social media footage from the incident, which happened before daybreak, shows people running in fear, including displaced citizens who sought shelter in the hospital courtyard.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) had phoned a doctor in the emergency room and issued an urgent evacuation order, according to a local journalist who was employed at the hospital.
According to reports, the officer instructed the doctor to keep a safe distance from all patients and displaced individuals.
“You only have twenty minutes to get out.”
The incident has not yet resulted in any casualties, according to the civil emergency agency.
The government media office, which is operated by Hamas, denounced the strike as a “horrific crime.” It stated that by attacking Al-Ahli Hospital, which is home to hundreds of patients and medical personnel, Israel is committing a heinous crime.
After Al-Shifa Hospital and other hospitals in northern Gaza were destroyed, Al-Ahli, a modest private hospital before to the war, is now the only operational medical facility left in Gaza City.
According to the IDF, it is looking into the incident’s reports.
The same hospital was the scene of a previous attack in October 2023 that claimed hundreds of lives. Israel said it was a misfired missile launched by Palestinian Islamic Jihad, which the group rejected, while Palestinian officials at the time accused an Israeli airstrike.
Following the October 7, 2023, attacks that resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 Israelis and the hostage-taking of 251, Israel began an ongoing military battle against Hamas.
More than 50,933 people have died in Gaza since the onslaught started, including 1,563 since Israel initiated extensive operations in the Strip on March 18, 2025, according to the health ministry operated by Hamas.
