Marco Rubio says the US and Iran will have direct nuclear talks in Oman on Saturday

On Thursday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the United States and Iran will have direct discussions on Saturday in Oman to address Tehran’s nuclear program.

Rubio stated that a top Iranian leader and US special envoy Steve Witkoff would conduct the talks during a Cabinet meeting presided over by President Donald Trump. After months of covert backchannel communications, the high-stakes summit takes place as international alarm over Iran’s nuclear ambitions grows.

“Hopefully, that will result in peace,” Rubio said to reporters. We’ve made it very plain that Iran would never possess a nuclear weapon, and I believe that’s what prompted this meeting.
