Antonio Brown On The Hook For Possibly Misleading The Court In Bankruptcy Case
Did Antonio Brown fabricate a medical condition in order to avoid appearing in court?
Due to his absence from a crucial hearing, the former professional football player is currently being accused of being dishonest with the court.
Antonio Brown declared bankruptcy in May 2024, citing debts over $3 million, even though he had made over $80 million during his football career.
Antonio Brown Could Have His Bankruptcy Claims Denied by the Court
The former NFL player is currently being accused of lying to the court about his health in order to postpone a crucial hearing in his bankruptcy case. The hearing was first postponed by the court after Brown’s lawyer stated that he was unable to attend because of health concerns.
Brown’s appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast the day following the hearing, however, demonstrated that the trustee in charge of his bankruptcy later contended that he was in good health.
In order to gain more authority over Brown’s funds, the trustee is now attempting to change Brown’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy case to a Chapter 7 one. The trustee even proposed to completely dismiss the bankruptcy.
In Austin, Texas, Brown made an appearance as a guest on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, where he apparently spoke on a variety of subjects for 98 minutes. The trustee shared a picture of him in Rogan’s studio that Brown had uploaded on X, according to In Touch.
Additionally, the trustee found inconsistencies in the athlete’s financial reports.
The trustee in the current instance likewise expressed serious doubts about the veracity of Brown’s financial disclosures. The trustee specifically drew attention to inconsistencies in his fourth modified schedule, which showed $35,000 in monthly income and $27,927 in costs.
According to the trustee, these numbers may be purposefully or carelessly deceptive in comparison to the monthly operating reports.
They maintained that such egregious misreporting of income and expenses calls for the case to be dismissed or converted to another court.
The trustee also pointed out that the football player’s financial reporting contained errors in monthly operating reports, insufficient disclosures, and other inadequacies, and that there were no significant changes made to rectify these issues. The trustee underlined:
“The debtor’s absence of honesty, by claiming an inability to attend the specially set confirmation hearing due to a feigned medical illness (yet flying to Texas for a podcast the next day at the latest), evidences the Debtor’s bad faith conduct and eliminates any need to continue this reorganization.”
According to reports, the 36-year-old did not provide an accurate inventory of his assets last year.
According to The Blast last year, Brown was accused of failing to disclose all of his assets and property, which might have put his bankruptcy case in jeopardy.
Brown’s planned repayment plan was also contested by the court-appointed trustee overseeing his Chapter 11 proceedings, who brought up a number of issues with the plan’s viability and compliance.
According to the trustee: “[Antonio] has failed to disclose his pre-petition [transfer] of property and his interests in various entities, has not timely or adequately complied with debtor reporting requirements, and cannot establish that his Plan is feasible.”
Before declaring bankruptcy, Brown was accused of not disclosing the transfer of three properties. According to the trustee’s assertions, he has several social media accounts, which are regarded as estate assets that were not disclosed in his bankruptcy documents.
In particular, a link to a website selling items with Brown’s likeness appears on his X account, formerly known as Twitter, suggesting possible unreported cash streams. The trustee also pointed out that Brown did not submit the necessary operating reports for the months of September and October in 2024.
A number of adversary processes about the dischargeability of his debts are still continuing, as the bankruptcy petition also made clear.
The jeweler for the former wide receiver demanded that his six-figure debt be paid in full.
Zul Nantambu, Brown’s jeweler, also filed a lawsuit against him last year in an attempt to keep a judgment against him from being discharged through bankruptcy.
According to court filings, Nantambu provided Brown a diamond-cut Cuban link chain and a specially designed pendant for his social media marketing.
The deal stated that Brown was to return the jewelry by May 18, 2022, but he kept the pieces after consistently failing to do so.
The jeweler was first given a $123,000 judgment, which was later increased to $968,000 but then revoked because of procedural problems. In order to guarantee that the initial $123,000 obligation is still enforceable in spite of Brown’s bankruptcy procedures, he is currently appealing to the court.
Brown, meanwhile, has officially asked that Nantambu’s case be dismissed and has denied any wrongdoing.
Tom Brady Tongue Lashed Antonio Brown Last Year For A Character Decline
According to The Blast, Brown was in the news last year because of a social media dispute. When he made public private texts from Tom Brady during Brady’s divorce procedures with Gisele Bündchen, he apparently attracted a lot of attention.
Brady was disappointed by Brown’s behavior and criticized him in those texts for making “poor decisions” and not successfully communicating with his supporters.
The former NFL player thought back to how their relationship had first demonstrated Brown’s modesty and openness to change.
Brady expressed worry, though, that Brown appeared to have deviated from a constructive course and was now surrounded by unfavorable people rather than the encouraging people who used to care about his best interests.
Will Antonio Brown face the hammer of justice in the days ahead?
