Kuffour praises African football and criticizes Carragher’s remarks during the AFCON
Samuel Osei Kuffour, a former Ghanaian international, has addressed Jamie Carragher’s criticism of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) by emphasizing the importance of African players in Europe.
“Carragher should be ashamed of himself,” said Kuffour, who won the UEFA Champions League with Bayern Munich, after being disappointed by Carragher’s remarks. He shows us no regard.
In criticizing Carragher’s own accomplishments, the former AS Roma center-back emphasized how outstanding some African players have been in the Premier League in particular.
“Did he win the Premier League when he lived there?” Kuffour inquired, according to Ghana Soccer Net.
Kuffour, who played 54 caps for Ghana from 1993 to 2006, said he was disappointed that his country did not win the AFCON championship.
I was one of the few among us who never had the opportunity to win the AFCON. I can’t show my kids anything, and it hurts me every day.
Kuffour commended the African teams’ strength, skill, and tactical understanding while acknowledging the fierce competition in the tournament.
“Ghana, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, and Nigeria are always worth watching when they play each other,” he continued.
