“I’ll step down if we don’t make it to the 2026 World Cup,” said the new Tunisia coach

If Tunisia fails to make it to the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals, Sami Trabelsi, the team’s recently hired head coach, has promised to resign.

The Carthage Eagles were recently led by the Tunisian strategist, who replaced Faouzi Benzarti, who resigned in October and Kais Yaâkoubi was named interim coach.

After four matches with three victories and a draw, Tunisia leads Group H of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with 10 points.

Trabelsi stated on CAF Online, “I will work with the entire technical team to achieve what we hope for.”

“Qualifying the team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is the primary goal of my contract with the Tunisian Football Federation, and I will resign from my position without hesitation if we fail to meet this goal.”

With two games against Liberia and Malawi scheduled for the fifth and sixth days of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March, Trabelsi will immediately need to get to work.

The last two World Cups were attended by the Carthage Eagles, who competed in Qatar in 2022 and Russia in 2018.
