Record producer Irv Gotti has died at the age of 54

Record producer Irv Gotti has passed away at the age of 54.

The Hollywood Reporter has reported that the co-founder of Murder Inc. Records has died, but the cause of death is still unknown.

Irv, who has worked with famous artists like Jay-Z, Jennifer Lopez, Ja Rule, Ashanti, and DMX, had a “minor” stroke early last year and has been dealing with problems tied to diabetes.

After the sad news, the music community has honored Irv, including Def Jam, the company where he started his career.

The company posted on Instagram: “Def Jam Recordings and everyone in the Def Jam family are very sad about the loss of Irv Gotti.”

His work at Def Jam, both as an A&R executive and with Murder Inc., helped create opportunities for new singers and producers, changing the sound of hip-hop and R&B. His creativity and strong commitment to music led to many hit songs that still connect with fans around the world today.

“We are thinking of his family, friends, and everyone who was affected by his work.”

Kanye West honored Irv as well.

Ye shared the news about the record producer’s death on his Instagram and included a white dove image.

To honor Irv, 50 Cent shared a photo of himself smoking next to a grave with “RIP” on it. He wrote, “I’m smoking on dat Gotti pack, nah God bless him [white dove emoji] LOL.”

Born as Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr., the star worked in A&R at Def Jam, helping artists like Jay-Z, Ja Rule, and DMX join the label.

Irv also produced Jay’s tune ‘Can I Live’ from the rapper’s 1996 record ‘Reasonable Doubt’.

He started Murder Inc in New York City in 1998. Later, he helped create Vanessa Carlton’s 2007 album “Heroes and Thieves” with Rick Rubin and Stephan Jenkins.
