Nelly will perform at the inauguration of Donald Trump, according to sources
The rapper from St. Louis is said to be performing at Trump’s inaugural Liberty Ball.
According to reports, the lineup honoring Donald Trump’s inauguration as the 47th President of the United States now includes rapper Nelly from St. Louis.
Several people with knowledge of the event preparation, as reported by CBS News, claim that the Country Grammar performer will take the stage at the First Liberty Ball on January 20.
American Idol winner Carrie Underwood, who will sing “America the Beautiful,” will be among the other — primarily country — performers who will join Nelly in welcoming the president back to office.
Underwood told NPR that she was honored to be asked to perform at the Inauguration and to be a little part of this historic occasion since she loves her country. “I am honored to respond to the call at a time when we all need to unite in the spirit of unity and forward-thinking.”
In addition to Lee Greenwood, Billy Ray Cyrus, Jason Aldean, Rascal Flatts, Parker McCollum, Gavin DeGraw, Liberty University’s Praise Choir, The Village People, and Kid Rock, the national anthem will be performed by classical tenor Christopher Macchio during the swearing-in ceremony.
After asking for funds through GoFundMe to pay for the trip, the HBCU Mississippi Valley State marching band, which was also invited to perform at the event, faced a great deal of criticism.
Former First Lady Michelle Obama will also be conspicuously absent, since she will not be attending the inauguration, just as she did not attend the burial of former President Jimmy Carter. Her husband, former President Barack Obama, will be present. Former Presidents Bush and Clinton, together with their spouses, Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton, respectively, will join him.
